I disagree. I think it is imagination that separates us from the run-of-the-mill animal. We imagine a future, and then imagine what we would have to be "like" to be in that future. We can then attempt to do now what we need to do to achieve our future goals. This is the origin of mythology, religion and allegiance. This is the foundation of our humanity and striving, and the corruption of ideals... through imagining the lessening of other's ideals. We are animals.
