What I do before a hurricane is, using the icemaker box, turn off the icemaker and fill the box with water and freeze a SOLID BLOCK. I do this day after day so long as I have electricity. Those solid blocks of ice last for days, I use some to keep my freezer cool and others to chill water etc in ice chests. Incidentally, I use filtered water that I freeze then when it melts I have nice cool drinking water. When we go camping I also freeze blocks of ice rather then use bagged ice cubes. Again lasts for days. jdn
