The war is over, but Bushies don't know it yet. Within a year public pressure and exhausted, expended troops will force Bush to find some way to bring back the troops and declare victory. But there isn't going to be any real victory, nor any real conclusion, and in the end the whole thing will look pretty pointless and mostly a big waste. Iraq will go on being a mess for a long, long time. Our part in it will go down in history as a big blunder.

It's like 1971. We knew the will and point to truly fight was pretty much over, but it took Nixon another two years to get our guys home. Vietnam then slowly collapsed into VC hands, but it turned out to not make any difference to our national security.
