Rock- We could convert to an alcohol electric hybrid society within 5 years if there was enough political clout and tax incentives. Farmers would benefit, the ecology would benefit, a whole new industrial and manufacturing base would usurp the stranglehold that oil has on our economy. We could also synthesize agri-oil from various plant based oil sources and ramp up production of syndiesel. It is all about the economics of scale. There are currently quite a few grain alcohol fuel distillery's built and more being planned. That is the future for the US, but it will take large capital outlay investments to make the whole infrastructure workable.
