Zenith, in so many words, said its employees were lazy and over-paid.

Sony knew that the real problem was incompetent Zenith management and products designed by Zenith which did not take into account ease of manufacture.

I'd guess the real reason Sony gave all of the ex-Zenith workers a raise was to point out how wrong American manufacturer's view of the world was. I'm sure the raise also helped solidify the loyalty of the ex-Zenith workers toward their new employer, Sony.

When ever you hear an American manufacturer talk about being priced out by "high labor casts" you can be certain you are talking to an idiot.

discovered that the situation was unteneable only when they didn't have jobs anymore. Then, when man look down the abyss, see those sharp pointed sontes, and they step back, they are new men.

That's why they came back and worked for the Japanese and the Japanese, -who knew what it is to look down the abyss- knew they would work hard and would be flexible and would deserve more money.
