For chrissakes. We are what, a bit past two days when people first started to realize the magnitude of the problem?

Everyone seems to think that the Feds have the magic bullet, the easy answer and solution. Yes, things could have moved more quickly on the federal level, but where the hell was state and local government? AWOL, from what I can see.

I'd ask some of the military types on the thread, how long does it take to mobilize a National Guard unit, to assemble the supplies necessary to support the mission and to transport it all, personnel and material, to a place where they can be deployed?

Again, we're what? 60 hours from when the scope of the flooding was beginning to be realized?

We had a major failure at the local level. And a lot of this was beyond their competence. I don't see how the Feds could have moved faster. If they have this under control by Monday, the clamor will die down.

This is a classic example of how the 24/7/365 media can both cover a disaster, and hype it.

I would have agreed with you yesterday.

However, after the third day, it is stunning how many places have received zero food and water. It isnt just New Orleans. The reports out of Slidell and Biloxi didnt paint a particularly good picture either.

It looks like things started getting better in NO towards nightfall, but they really did seem about 24 hours behind. I am sure that many will call this nitpicking, but that extra day cost some people their lives and many people an untold amount of suffering.
