Maurice Re: "Natural World" I am completely comfortable with your view. You seem to accept the idea that the world is full of mystery, which we may someday unravel, or that we might not. This I can accept.

You are not really anything like a "liberal" as the left wing of our Democrats claims to be but more of a "freethinker" of the traditional type. This is good.

Here is my beef with them when it comes to science, and if I didn't have kids in the public schools I wouldn't care what they thought. But as it is their tendency to try and pollute any field they can with their doctrinaire belief system I have to be on guard to refute any of their propaganda I find in my children's lessons. My school district is a very well run and conservative district and this task is not difficult.

Our political left are really socialists but whether they owe more to Marx, Lenin or Trotsky is I guess an open question. But it really doesn't matter which flavor of socialist they are, for they all demand an absolute materialist interpretation of the human experience and thereby demand that "science" be elevated to the status of a god and be accepted as infallible and have an explanation for everything in the universe.

They MUST defend this view of science for as their whole wobbly ideology is supposedly based on "science" then they must defend the infallibility of "science" or they risk undermining the "logic" of socialism.

One place this plays out is in the schools over the subject of "evolution". Evolution is a "theory" but they are forced to enforce it as an infallible "law" rather than a "theory". A failure here puts their whole belief system at risk. This is really funny to watch. I like to get 'em red in the face, they can be so entertaining. <g>

And one of our "liberals" can't accept the idea of mystery anywhere any more than Lenin could. But if you can accept that the universe is full of mystery then we agree on quite a lot.
