The cable company limits the cable line, so you can basically only get enough juice for cable TV.

Glad I asked.

I spent the last couple of days breaking in a new computer and setting up a wireless network and Comcast broadband. Yeah, I know I said I didn't need broadband. And I didn't. But the discussion we had here got me to thinking and as I noodled I realized that it was actually cheaper on a monthly basis for me to get Comcast cable, believe it or not, so I did.

Got a new notebook to go with it given that I was nearly due for a new one and given that I got the wireless gear home before I discovered that I needed a wired ethernet connection on my computer to configure my router for wireless. Of course, not having an ethernet port on my old computer was one of my reasons for going wireless. But it seems ya gotta have wired to go wireless. Perverse.

Anyway, I called Comcast originally and they said they had to do an "install" which basically meant checking to see if I had enough juice in my cable for both TV and broadband. Twenty five bucks. But when I bought my gear at Best Buy they said that wasn't necessary and that they would notify Comcast plus give me a big rebate on my gear to boot, so that's what I did. As it turns out, unlike yours, my cable does seem to have enough juice. Lickety split.

So now I know what that "install" was about. Thanks.
