The expense will be great. But, this disaster is costing many many times more than what proper flood controls would have cost. $2 Billion is what I read for proper flood control around New Orleans. How much is this disaster costing? Short sighted thinking as ususal.

I hadn't thought of that with my quick comment. Perhaps do it with some steel doors rather like the Thames river east of London

Not only a new city. Bring in the best city planners in the world. Bring them in to make New New Orleans. Call it N2O for short. Thats a laugh.

It could be the first city of the new century. That is what the United States is. Create the same communities that existed before with rent control using subsidies from the tourist old New Orleans. Create museums and wildlife exhibits. Make it ten times better than Disney could do it.

No rides. None. Use the people as the park. Those that are there stay there. And go to work in the park. The whole freaky thing a park.

Creat new levees from the dredging of the river. Just divert them. Moats around the parishes with gates to close in case of flood. The reclaimed land would drain a lot faster being opened up. In case another hurricane hits, close the gates, wait it out while the pumps take care of it. Evacuate everyone to the north on high speed trains. 120 mph would be good enough.

No more tall building allowed. Ten story limit. Let them rebuild north in the business city.
