Well said. Price controls are counter-productive but, as we saw during the last energy price run-up from 1976 to 1982, they are extremely popular - and for the public at large they are irresistible.

Price controls appeal to the simple mind-set of most of the populace, just as the voodoo of "supply side economics" did. One creates an energy shortage while the other created a massive explosion of debt which will haunt us for generations. Unfortunately simple wrong ideas take on a life of their own. Perhaps because there are so many simpletons.

As H.L. Mencken said, "For every problem, there is a solution that is simple, neat, and wrong."
