that's right....

the evacuation order was given when katrina was still a cat 4 hurricane....

the mayor of NO KNEW what the possible repercussions would be if a cat 4 hit....

he did NOTHING other than say 'time to go'

and for those that didn't his brilliant contingent plan was 'go to the superdome, no wait, don't go, oh, well yes'

he told thousands of people to pile in there without adequate provisions

The evacuation order pre-dated the hurricane, Bill.

That was the first "request." They opened the Superdome for those that didn't go. Nobody, but nobody, was thinking of busing people out then. You would have been laughed out of New Orleans to suggest it.

The real evacuation order came after Bush called the Governor and demanded it on Wednesday. By then, everything was under water.

EDIT: I see that happened Sunday. But as I say, nobody would have called for the buses to be used until Wednesday.
