My point is that Costco is viewed as an example of a benevolent corporation (and I believe has been mentioned here in that regard). After all, the company had its start in the Seattle area. I mentioned Costco largely as a contrast to WalMart, which is frequently vilified by some as an example of bad corporate governance.

Interesting question about whether Costco operates in the South. I checked, and they have stores in Georgia, North and South Carolina, Florida, Alabama and Texas. No stores in either Mississippi or Louisiana.
