Mediocrity seems to rule the day in this country nowadays. Your post speaks of excuses and excuses. Clinton appointed a excellent FEMA director. Bush's admitted Witt's expertise during one of his 2000 Presidential debate. Clinton appointed such excellent people throughout his Administration. Bush lacks that management/leadership expertise.

Nobody is blaming Bush for Katrina. That is a natural occurence and those who blame Bush for the brewing of Katrina are idiots and those who think that Bush is being blamed for Katrina are morons. What people are blaming Bush for is the way relief efforts were planned, the way Bush was vacationing and going out for fundraisers for his party instead of calling and planning relief efforts with Administration and FEMA officials while a Category 5 hurricane was brewing in the GULF.

CIA could be blamed for faulty intelligence to cover up one's shortcomings but I hope not that faulty forecast would be blamed here.

that Katrina would weaken far more greatly before hitting shore as Hurricanes regularly do (and N.O. is just inland enough to hope for an easier time of it).

What a load of apologist, revisionist, non-realist BS!

N.O. has long been on the top of the list of potential natural disasters due to a hurricane. And as Katrina passed Florida and headed to the Gulf, the National Weather Service was already predicting landfall at N.O. 7 days before it hit.
