No knowledgeable individual has suggested that the levees weren't in the "best of condition". Everyone has known for years that a direct hit of a big hurricane in N.O. would spell disaster. Every civil engineer in the country knew it.

It had nothing to do with the regular maintenance on the levees.

You people.

The levees held up for what, 48 hours after the hurricane? You don't think that if they'd been maintained, or especially if they'd been upgraded, like the state had been begging to do, that they'd have had a good shot of holding up?
