>where can I get some tax money to rebuild my house so it will withstand a tornado? The NewOrleans levees were built to withstand a cat3 hurricane. It was hit with a cat5. My house won't withstand a cat1 tornado. Where's my upgrade at?

For one thing, if I understand correctly, the levees weren't hit directly by the storm, so they held up for a couple of days. Also, Louisiana asked repeatedly for funds to upgrade the levees to withstand a Cat-5. Instead, money went to build a bridge to nowhere in Alaska.

And are you shitting me about your house? Do you not understand the difference between one house and a whole city of hundreds of thousands of people? You think that the federal government should not aid in protecting a city from flooding and hurricanes? The alternative to paying the hundred million or so dollars to improve the levees is now tens of billions in insurance claims. Penny-wise, pound-foolish.
