Shades Re: "New Orleans" I replayed the Meet the Press tape and VERY CLEARLY the Jefferson Parish guy is blaming FEMA. And HE would be the guy to know, Jefferson Parish has all the dry roadway access to New Orleans. Jefferson is not NO proper but it is the whole West Bank and also the high ground access from the North via Kenner.

The Jefferson Parish guy says FEMA stopped water shipments from Walmart and diesel oil shipments from the Coast Guard, presumably to run the Jefferson Parish pumps in Metarie. He also says that FEMA cut his phone lines and that he reconnected the lines and then had his sheriff post an armed guard to protect the connection, presumably prepared to to "shoot to kill" a FEMA officer who tried to cut the lines again. You REALLY want FEMA running things?

When you see the FOX or CNN reporter in downtown NO he is there on Canal Street, right on the edge of the Quarter. Why is he there? Because he can get in a car and drive back across the US 90 bridge and spend the night in a hotel in Morgan City of Houma. And never get his feet wet. And you can drive right up to the Superdome that way and never get wet.

You want more FEMA? The local guy there says FEMA is the problem. Russert asked Chertoff if he should be fired. CHertoff lied about NO access too. He said I-10 is under water, but looking at the CNN aerial view the route from the West Bank via Gretna or Westwego is high and dry. THe only problem is the FEMA checkpoint.
