"This wasn't a military operation; this is what the National Guard is for."

Oh duh. But the fact that almost half of the areas National Guard is in Iraq and half of their equipment that can deal with high water is also there doesn't change the equation because...?

General Honere is, well, a general. He can only criticize the chain of command if he is ready to retire. While I respect what he does, I take anything he says with a grain of salt. new Orleans, or any part of the Gulf Coast is not more remote than Banda Aceh. We did not take this long to respond to the tidal wave. It takes a very creative imagination to explain why it takes longer to respond to Katrina. But, I do have faith in you to do this. The fact that your explanation is total bullshit is irrelevant.

OTOH, you think a 'th' pair can be kerned. Given that takes a total distortion of reality, I guess you will try.

So why wasn't it ready to go when Katrina hit? Why did the other ships carrying necessary supplies as well as earth moving equipment did not leave until Wed. Its called pre preparation.

You really are ignorant as hell. This wasn't a military operation; this is what the National Guard is for. There are substantial legal issues in involving the Active Duty military in these types of operations.

Disappointing......not your usual good response. All it took to get the active military involved was Bush's command. You need to quit trying to defend the feds response......every other GOPer has given up long ago.

The natural guard is notified ahead of a disaster that they might be called up. People are expected to make arrangements so that they will be ready to move when the disaster hits. Its FEMA's responsibility to make sure the national guard is ready to go. That did not happen. Why?

Ask the governor. It is the governor's responsibility to involve the Guard. I believe she did call up some number; but the reality is, as General Honere has clearly stated today, if you preposition men and materiel close enough to the hurricane to be able to get in immediately, those men and material would have become victims. Not rocket science, but I understand it is a hard concept for YOU.

They were staged in TN, TX and GA. It takes five days to get from TX to NO? Did they go by way of Alaska?

Can you believe the mayor of NewOrleans after ordering an evacuation of the city, did not use mass transit to pick up anyone who couldn't evacuate?

Nagin:
8/28
cnn.com
cnn.com
Nagin issued mandatory evacuation.
And get this:Nagin warned that Katrina's expected storm surge -- which could top 28 feet -- would likely topple those levies.

Nagin could have saved lives but he didn't. It's very clear why he is screaming his head off....
