What's the chances of that happening? Billions to one for each existing life. Yet it happened, trillions of times. Until someone comes up with a better explaination, I am going with Darwin. That is not my argument with you. It is your (and many in the ultra right wing) contention that government is the problem, that I have a problem with. <<<"Common people", when not mollycoddled and suffocated by Big Government, can work out quite a few things for themselves. Of course plenty won't. I'm saying they should think of looking after themselves because they can't trust governments to do much of a job of it.>>> It is the survival of the best and brightest all over again. It is the people with the best and brightest government that will survive. The best and brightest without organization, without government, will not have much legacy. I do not disagree that most government in existence today are made up of foolish people. But, we are in the early innings where people are trying to organize themselves. The current US government (Bush Administration) is making a self fulfilling prophecy that when given a chance government will screw things up. They are doing an excellent job proving their point. The problem I have with you is this: Why can't you see that we need a government that can do several things at the same time. 1). Provide an atmosphere ("freedom" where those that can do things, manage things on their own, be allowed to flourish - so long as they don't start getting selfish and intrude on the freedom of others. 2). Provide a safety net for those that cannot or will not help themsemselves. For most of us, we will be somewhere in between. There will be times in our lives where we would want to be left alone to do our thing and there will be times when we will need help. But at the end of the day, the society that has the best government will win. If we continue to have government like the government that is handling the situation in NOLA, we are not going to win anything.
