Although I lived in the USA for nearly a decade I never had the opportunity to visit the Southern States. I would like to visit them someday, it would probably during the winter though. I found Maine and New Hampshire hot and humid enough during the summer. I really don't think I could survive down there during the summer months.

The news only printed the bad things that happened.

The USA has always been a huge resource of help when natural disasters occurred in all parts of the world. This is why you see other countries falling over each other in sending assistance to the USA. It's just an opportunity to return a favour.

Iran, France, Germany they all jumped at the opportunity to send aid. Maybe some of the reasons were political, but aid is aid when you need it.
