Usually not. Realize though that it isn't the e. coli in and of itself. E. coli is easy to test for and it considered to be a sure sign of significant raw sewage contamination and all of its attendant virii and bacteria. It's the other stuff that is the big problem.

Oysters filter the water and tend to retain all kind of heavy metal, muck and microbes.
That's why even people otherwise never having such problems sometimes get real sick from eating "bad" oysters.
