I'm not a scientist, I can't tell you why that is. But then in the same vain, tell me why Antartica is shedding continent size blocks of ice. Or what is the meaning of northern artic warming trends. I've read that both climates are the canary in the mine, so to speak. I don't have an answer to your quesion, but worldwide, the scientific community, by and large, believes it has, doh, something to do with human activity.... That is the general consensus, for sure, the energy lobby supports thinking to the contrary.
