tracking spending habits will likely violate some privacy laws. Besides, what is John/Jane Doe citizen gonna do about it after the money has been spent ? So why ask for the info in the first place ?

Personally I SHUDDER to think of the potential fraud awaiting this disaster relief plan.
First, lets go back to Florida last year, FEMA for some STUPID reason seemed to think MIAMI was hardest hit by the hurricanes. VAST SUMS were paid out to Dade county residents, even 153 FUNERALS were paid for. YET no storm hit Miami/Dade County with any ferocity at all.
Now, lets move on to Gulf Coast this year. Here is what I heard on T/V.
1. Everyone hit by the storm that was employed can now sign up for unemployment benefits.
2. For those not employed they have a second plan for so called SELF employed benefits.
3. For those not qualifying for either they get Welfare benefits.

All sounds pretty fair right? Now HERES THE CATCH. Since the government recognizes you may have lost your identity papers in the storm there is NO REQUIREMENT FOR PROVING EVEN WHO YOU ARE LET ALONE YOUR QUALIFICATIONS. I am BETTING that people will sign up and receive ALL THREE. Hell,, a few buddies of mine have even said, lets go near there and make the TOLL FREE CALL and sign up ourselves. Thats how DANGEROUS this plan appears, I HOPE I AM WRONG. But, based upon last year here in Fla. I doubt that I am. jdn

Wonder if there is a way to track who is buying what with the $2000 debit cards? It would be nice to think that everyone who needs one, gets one, and uses it responsibly for themselves and their family. Like food, clothing and shelter. Maybe a small radio with batteries until they get settled. Phone card. Etc....

Also wonder if there is a list of the people they give a card to...At least we would know if they were dead or alive if they signed for one.

Those are all great wishes and hopes as to how the cards would and should be used............I'm betting it isn't going to happen.
