Welcome KLP! Thanks for bringing cookies. Make yourself at home. It seems that most of us here are thinking along the same lines: Krauthammer's article pretty well sums up the "blame game" aspect of things, at least until we have a better understanding of the facts and less conjecture.

Kholt has just made the obvious point that when red tape gets cut, controls go with it, because red tape is usually nothing more than a redundant series of controls. (She may not like that paraphrase, but it is close enough for now, if not government work.)

And you have now hit the question we probably really ought to be talking about: Where do we go from here? Are there things we can do? I was planning to find a list of what should be in the average emergency preparedness, but I haven't gotten around to it.
