Malthusianism? Hmmm. I agree, why not?

Interesting quote. I didn't realize that they had the freedom to print such things in France after the occupation, or were these things printed outside France. (I guess there was probably more latitude in Vichy France, too.)

What does he think of the book otherwise, is it worth a read? BTW, did you read Freakonomics? I know Karen did. Lots of interesting ideas in that book. Talk about challenging the conventional wisdom!

As for your question: Based on what I read, we are only now seeing the beginning of constructive analysis, and what we have endured/allowed ourselves to become mired in is an incredibly intense firestorm of "obstructive fingerpointing and scapegoating." I'm not so sure that any of that is a foundation upon which I would like to build a constructive response because I see most of it as designed to draw attention away from inconvenient facts and focus it solely on facts which advance the finger-pointer's agenda.

A good example of a lousy foundation would be the Congressional Democrats early call for a wide-open investigation into just the federal response to Hurricane Katrina. How can any legitimate investigation not take into account and examine the local and state response as well?
