we have endured/allowed ourselves to become mired in is an incredibly intense firestorm of "obstructive fingerpointing and scapegoating." I'm not so sure that any of that is a foundation upon which I would like to build a constructive response because I see most of it as designed to draw attention away from inconvenient facts and focus it solely on facts which advance the finger-pointer's agenda.

Back in the sixties, we used to joke that just because you are paranoid does not mean there aren't people coming to get you.

Even earlier than that, when we were kids, my little sister would every so often get caught beating up (not necessarily physically) our younger brother, but she always wanted our parents to be even handed in handing out punishment.

And, even before that, Harry Truman would say, its too bad that most economists have two hands .... on the one hand.....

i just finished freakonomics...i found it an interesting read, and yes, what passes for conventional wisdom (theoretical as opposed to practical economics)

point of fact, i feel he challenged very few of my personal observations and practices as a businessperson....

but i can see how much of what he wrote would startle the bureaucrats and academics who have little or no experience with real markets

ps....

nice thread, CR....good luck with it!
