"I guess the geniuses never realized that many of the victims left their account info in the homes they were just told to evacuate ..."

Not to mention that many poor don't have bank accounts. They get their checks cashed for a small fee at a local store. When I lived in Galveston, you often saw stores with a sign offering that service.

Does anyone else have a problem with the police kicking in locked doors in NewOrleans? Seems they are showing that a lot and it's standard procedure. They've confiscated guns, they're busting down your locked door so looters don't have to work so hard. Is the mayor this freakin stupid?

I imagine a lot of the REALLY POOR ones have no bank accounts at all, and cash checks at check cashing places that charge a percentage. It's part of the thinking of the whole mess. I think that most white people elsewhere didn't DREAM that there might be 100,000 people in an American city that couldn't just gas up the SUV and drive out and put a hotel room in Baton Rouge on the credit card. I'll bet Bush was as surprised as his Poppy was by those supermarket scanners!

Steve, A hurricane is coming but you need reservations?

Last Friday, FEMA stopped issuing debit cards and instead said that for victims of the hurricane, they will do direct deposits into their bank account. All they have to do is contact FEMA with their bank account info.

I guess the geniuses never realized that many of the victims left their account info in the homes they were just told to evacuate ...

I don't think they are even doing that now. Last nite on the news, they said the program had been discontinued. I don't understand why the rules keep changing from day to day.
