As inflation continues to pound its way higher, lower spending is indeed almost a foregone conclusion -- and with lower spending, we will lack the means to sustain our ability to service the current account deficit which has inflationary implications. When you have factored in the current position of the US as an import-oriented economy with a massive and growing current account deficit, then I will take your prognostications more seriously.
