I think they are basically saying they are afraid of what will happen when the US economy completely collapses under its debt load. Since they are buying Bush Lira with fiat money of their own, it's not like they are actually putting something important at risk. Also, their oil bill is coming in dollars and is going up, thanks to the war in Iraq, anti-conservation policies, Katrina and incentives for price gougers.

The Clown Buck has had a decent dead cat bounce and many buyers have made money in the short term, after losing for 4 years. The Eur has problems of its own, as does the British Pound. But the Yen is getting its act together, the Swissie is solid and the commodity currencies are roaring. The Yuan will slap the dollar silly sometime over the next three years and you don't even want to be holding any when that happens.
