"Get rid of inheritance taxes completely. People should be able to pass on their wealth. "

I like all your ideas except this one. America is a land where the hardworking, smart poor can become rich. We don't want to create any more wealthy, undeserving princes than we already have. Let them earn their own.

If a person wants to bequeath something, let them do it while they're alive. When they die, pass on any small business, farm, etc., but sieze ALL the wealth left after the bills are paid. Who better to tax than the dead?

To a limited extent. I like the Elroy Proposal. You can pass any wealth you have accumulated in your lifetime, tax free. Anything passed to you is subject to confiscation at your death. Unless you are a useless parasite, your children will be wealthy. If you are a useless parasite, then they drop to the bottom of the queue. This proposal has merit, you can provide for our children, but they can't be Paris Hiltons. If they are, then their children have to struggle like everyone else.

Mindmeld, To pay for it all, create a new 40% bracket for people that make $500K-$1M in gross income per year. Create another 55% bracket for people who make over $1M per year. Those two new brackets will pay for all the rest. Let's force the rich to give back in big way and resurrect the middle class, while giving the poor a break.

Good idea, except that those making over $500K a year can afford to avoid taxes one way or another.

Like campaign finances, there's always a way.
