Perhaps the US has an environment that accommodates SUV's better than most countries. I din't like SUV's until I went back to Nigeria and Siemens gave me a Toyota Landcruiser to drive. In a city environment anything that is lower, easy to park, and manoeuver in heavy traffic is better.
In central, west and northeast Brazil or in many rural semi-rural areas, an SUV would be a good option.

Now Singapore, Japan, Europe -unless north of Sweden Norway or Finland- is not a good option.

But let the Americans keep their SUVs: we put a ethanol engines on them and can keep rolling. :-)
