I've seen geeks very well treated where I've been in life. The CEO of Chevron when I worked there, George Keller, was the Chemical Engineer who developed Chevron's process for mixing heavy crude with natural gas to produce gasoline. A genuinely nice man who was kind to everyone regardless of their position.

Even our Chief Financial Officer at Chevron Industries was a PhD in Chemical Engineering.

I would even go so far as to say that the best companies I have worked for or with have been those companies run by geeks. But it takes a special type of geek. Many have the common sense of a trout - but in the right position, even that works out well.
