What's interesting is that here we are, big storm coming, and all the action has been with extraordinarily competent local officials. No FEMA doing evacuations. In fact, nobody has even suggested that FEMA should be doing evacuations.

What's with that? Only a few weeks ago, people were raising hell because FEMA wasn't there before the storm. Now, nobody is calling for FEMA to be involved. What are they doing? Prepositioning stuff. Just like they did for Katrina.

Didn't FEMA learn ANYTHING? Aren't they supposed to be driving into Houston while everyone else is driving out? Shouldn't FEMA be sitting on the beach at Surfside -- where there is not so much as a single structure capable of withstanding a direct hit? No FEMA in Galveston?

I don't know. Seems strange to me. FEMA, the first responders, are nowhere to be found.

People are going nuts here.

Classes are being cancelled and there are long lines for gasoline. Ok, I can understand Houston, which apparently is a zoo, but here? We could get as high as 70 mph winds, but that isn't a big deal. Could get a tornado or two, and rain. And besides, we won't see anything until Saturday.

Fear can make people do crazy things. They loose all rationality. They should rent out their places to people fleeing Galveston.
