Buddy,

There are a number of reasons I do not like the VAT.

1. It is basically the Stamp Act (a root cause Revolutionary War).

2. It encourages vertical integration for companies and manufacturers - whether or not that type of corporate structure makes sense for a particular industry.

3. It encourages outsourcing manufacturing overseas, or at least discourages higher priced domestic labor.

4. Since the VAT has moved across Europe (required by the EU), European growth rates have flattened. At the same time European unemployment rates have exploded.
