If one was cynical, as I and a colleague were in 1988, expecting "a bullet through the middle east", to raise oil prices, one would think it was all by design. Who benefits? Are the people who benefit associated with those who made the decisions leading to the current situation? They are? Goodness me, what a surprise.

I agree.

Indeed, some have gone even further, whispering that Osama and Dubya are being run by the same financial grandfather (figuratively speaking, of course).

But then, that's too outlandish... Isn't it?

>>"It's also amusing that "all we had to do was wait". But I doubt the waiting game would have worked. Saddam and sons were in control and were perfectly capable of killing any number of opponents. Polls gave Saddam 100% support. There was an attack on Uday, and attempts to run coups, but they tended to end in disaster for the participants."<<

Let's see Maurice. We killed Uday, caught Saddam and only have 1900+ dead, thousands maimed for life, countless Iraqis dead, $200Bn down the drain and counting, created an Iraqi Taliban, gave live fire training to this bunch of crazies and made civil war a real possibility if it has not already started but fortunately for us we don't have a "disaster".

BTW, when the inspectors were back in looking for the WMD that Bush could later not find in the Oval Office, I remember that one of the reasons why we could not wait was because of the effect of the hot summer in Kuwait on the troops. Now that is "amusing"!
