I wouldn't say it was absurd. The purpose of a noc agent is to be obvious in every way except who you really work for. That was the value of Valerie Plame. Everyone knew her and her famous husband. But they didn't know she was reporting the innermost secrets of the Saudi Arabian oil industry, which she had access to in her cover job, to the CIA. If Barbara Olsen was CIA then her discretion would be guaranteed so that's not a problem. People can change their appearance. And if the unthinkable happens and she is identified, the American press is tightly controlled anyhow. So is the risk really that great? Also you do agree that a huge airliner hitting the Pentagon would make more than a 16 foot hole, don't you? And would not be able to penetrate 3 layers of "hardened" fortification in the Pentagon construction which the missile did do? The cover up was flawed in that no one took that into account before hand. Once announced they had to stick with the airline story even though the evidence screams it's a lie. They could not switch to oh it was a missile the Arabs stole or bought from some arms dealer because they had already announced it was an airliner. Even though an airliner could not make the complicated flight path it took before it hit! I am amazed people actually believe it and don't ever look further. Not referring to us, of course, just the huddled masses.
