We have checked into that and eventually we may have to do that, but the estimates make us almost sick to think about them. Also a new one would cause our utility bill to go sky high as neighbors who have done so are screaming and yelling about utility bills in the thousands. With the old unit we have now they are not too bad summer or winter compared to those who have put in new ones. We are about to decide it just may be an opportunity to begin thinking about selling this house and locate or build a one story home with less space. Just can't decide where. We mostly only use three of the rooms now and have no zoning for the rooms we don't use. Our windows are painted shut so we cannot use them when the weather is hot or in the fall when we begin to get breezes blowing. Do have a nice patio that is comfortable and can have our coffee or tea out there sometimes. Our home is not as active as it once was and we have enjoyed it a lot but times are changing and we think we need to cut down and do some more conservative planning. Our taxes continue to go up as we do homestead and those are frozen, but the school taxes we only get a 20% discount and I think they are just too high. Houston is rapidly growing and there is so much building going on and new schools will have to be built and that is going to raise the school taxes more. We have to consider medical services where we might choose to live and we are close enough to the medical center to make it there by ambulance or car quickly if needs arise. There are some pluses to living here and if we won the lottery it wouldn't even be a question. lol

I almost get overwhelmed thinking about packing this house and picking what I want to take with me, as well as building our own home, but I know that if we want to build a house to our own needs, watching it be built is another responsibility that will take a lot of time. Decisions, decisions....I don't even want to think about those now...so will try to be happy and comfortable right where we are until it is absolutely necessary to do something about it. Both of us grew up without air conditioning but were better able to take it then, as when you haven't had something you just don't miss it as much. Jeesh, I am going to bed.....
