<<Our taxes continue to go up as we do homestead and those are frozen, but the school taxes we only get a 20% discount and I think they are just too high. >>

My taxes have gone from $900 when I moved in to $4,600 this year. During the same time the taxes on my farm have dropped $1,000. Different school boards.

Our home is not as active as it once was and we have enjoyed it a lot but times are changing and we think we need to cut down and do some more conservative planning.

Your home has grown old gracefully like everything else around you. It's hard to keep up a large house when it's just the two of you and you have aged as well as the house has. Those homes were built well and just need a little more TLC like we all do when we get older.<vbg>

Also a new one would cause our utility bill to go sky high as neighbors who have done so are screaming and yelling about utility bills in the thousands.

I don't get it. Newer models of air conditioners or heat pumps are usually more efficent, often much more, then older models. Are the new models more powerful (and therefore use more energy despite the higher effeciency?), couldn't you get a smaller model even if it is considered underpowered by the people selling or installing it?

What type of system is the old unit?
