JohnM, Do you always base your opinions on "definite RUMORS"? How smart is that?

Family connections did the trick, however.

It is amusing how the above comment is so frequently expressed on various SI threads and other places. I guess that is supposed to mean that the recipient of family connections did not earn (or deserve) the opportunity that he or she received. What is equally amusing to me is that the comment seems to be reserved for only President Bush.

Never assigned to others who have benefitted from "family juice". Some examples are the Kennedys, the Daleys, the Fords, or the Browns. And, of course, it is never mentioned that Gore's daddy was a long time senator who provided the juice for his son's intro to Washington politics.

Tangentially, the Hollywood crowd who are some of the greatest critics of Bush, somehow find it okay to use "family juice" to help their children become mediocre actors.

In so far as getting through college with minimal grades. One merely needs to look at the endless parades of "jocks" who can read and understand an "end around" play but not find North Dakota on a map. An athlete who can make the rim shots but not diagram a sentence. Yes, one can get a degree and without great educational skills. In my view, universities find the intake of sports revenue more valuable than providing a quality education. Whatever...

I agree that President Bush is not a highly skilled speaker. However, my criticism of him is not that he mixes up a word or two like the vast majority of us frequently do. My issue is that he has not been forceful enough when he speaks. Especially, during times of challenge or crisis or when he does his press conferences. IMO, the unwashed american public resonates with a leader, right or wrong, who speaks his mind. President Bush is too willing to tolerate a fool. The press quickly discovered this weakness in his character. The blogs have developed this idea into a cottage industry.

Maybe that is the reason so many of us on the threads enjoy pontificating about who is wrong. Who is right. And, who is just beautiful. (Yesterday, on a local radio station the talking heads are braying about the unattractiveness of Lynndie England). I've seen photos of these guys and they are butt ugly! Yet, they choose to label her with "names" because of her facial appearance. As the General said, "Stuck on stupid!"

But you can make it through Yale with only a smidging of brights

We now know Bush had a higher Officer Candidate score than "Kerry the genius." The "dumb Bush" smear just didn't hold up.

definite rumours HAHAHAHAHA! John, that is the funniest thing you've said in a long time! Must be a beautiful day there in NJ just like it is here in the NW--Sunny and crisp does get to one's head.

Definite rumours....... WHO can't make them up....? Nearly anyone can and they do!

BTW, my hubby's family were founders of Harvard in the mid-1600's or so....Will have to check out if we had founders of Yale as well....Suppose that will help get in? <ggg>
