What's lost in the discussion is that we can't afford all. I don't suppose you have any basis for this remark, right? How did you determine that we "can't afford all"? What we can't afford is a freaking Social Security system that is technically insolvent. The combined total of the items you mention are immaterial when compared to the true deficit in Social Security. Let alone, Medicare and the combined state Medicaid programs. Our problem isn't having to fight wars and rebuild cities. Our problem is pathetic government programs gone awry.
