r1: Thanks for the story about "the computer guru" -- hope he helped you and Harold...It sounds like he and his wife have an ideal set-up as they can live on what they harvest from the sea.

btw, I have a brother-in-law who comes from a big family of hunters...Jay is a great guy and he loves to go deer hunting...My sister is really into seafood but she has also learned how to cook things like venison and pheasant...;-)

he offered to take harold hunting and show
him how to dress and butcher deer.

In our cub scout group there are approximately 5-6 avid
hunters. On several of the camp-outs they get into their
stories and the fun of being out in the woods.

I often find myself getting caught up in their stories and
they have asked me to go hunting with them.

I've actually toyed with the idea, but think I'd struggle
a bit with pulling the trigger. I probably would end up
taking a photo instead.

I imagine it would be nice to have a freezer full of meat
that isn't all pumped up with hormones and steroids...

But I still teeter back and forth about being able to kill one.

It was easy when I killed one with my truck. No thought
involved. The animal did all the work.

The deer are certainly getting pushed out of thier habitat
as the woods are being plowed and seeded with McMansions.

I see so many dead animals on the side of the roads these
days.

Anyway I guess it must be the do-it-yerselfer in me that is
the only reason why I still ponder the thought of taking the
hunting class to get my license. Sort of a feeling of being
able to survive and sustain if needed.

The hunters' stories sound great as they get into detail
about the hunt. But then I think maybe it is something that
I don't really need to experience.

I don't know.

Anyhow the story about Harold's friend and how his builds and
survives off of the land gave me some dream material.
