The oil is miniscule cost compared to restaurant servings of such delicious and juicy turkey. My ex-SIL usually filters the used oil thru some cloths gizmo after each use and after reheating the oil in the cooker very hot and for about a half hour or more, and usually gets 3-4 uses if kept refrigerated between uses. So far, no one has died from bad oil... so far. btw, I only remember 2-3 gallons of oil being used per 15 - 25 lb turkey. The cooker he uses resembles nothing more than a giant stainless steel tin can with various racking attachments. I don't remember the oil cost, altho $40 seems excessive to my memory of 20 years ago. Of course my memory skips a lot, sometimes 25 years and sometimes more, as well as every "recent" hour that goes by now.

I found that out last Christmas. This year I am bringing my turkeys to a local BBQ restaurant that cooks them for a fee. It's cheaper an easier.
