In the case of North Korea, maintaining the status quo hurts. Peace, love, and harmony are great things unless you have a complete asshole in charge of your country. The asshole doesn't reform when presented with peace and love; rather, he becomes a bigger asshole and prepares his kid to succeed him in his assholedness.
