Presumably it would stop the peace-loving Christians of the world from destroying the Kim regime and giving millions of starving, underdeveloped North Koreans access to the benefits enjoyed by the rest of the world. In the case of North Korea, maintaining the status quo hurts.

Peace, love, and harmony are great things unless you have a complete asshole in charge of your country. The asshole doesn't reform when presented with peace and love; rather, he becomes a bigger asshole and prepares his kid to succeed him in his assholedness.
