Steve, RE: "The American voter is a lot smarter "

My post makes no comments about voters.

In fact, a lot of my friends voted for Bush because they wanted lower taxes. I bet they aren't happy about his shopping spree.

Here's where we disagree:

You believe a smart image wins popularity contests.

A smart image is a liability not an asset, for any political party.

Consider the guy that thought the world was round - he was killed for his intelligence - he certainly wasn't popular. History has shown intelligence does not win popularity contests. If he were alive today and posting on SI, he'd probably earn a zillion ignores because his intelligence would convey accurate, futuristic information that exceeds what some could emotionally handle today.

And, were any engineers more popular than any football players in your school because if your theory is true (where you think a smart image would be a popular image) and assuming there exists at least one smart engineer, there should be at least one popular engineer in your school.

RE: "liberals think they are"

Why did you write liberals - the statement is independent of any political party.

A smart image is a liability not an asset, for any political party.

Republican party was smart because they did not embrace the smart image, because Rove is a political genius.

Amy J
