You could say a vast majority of Americans are "rooting for American defeat" if you define defeat as wanting to extricate America from Iraq. That's a really stupid way to define "defeat" though. I define defeat as getting this country in to a war it had no business being in, spending billions on it, and making a big mess. It amazes me that so many were involved in THAT defeat. It's even more amazing that so many still cling to that defeat. Granted, it's a smaller and smaller clot of people, but still, you'd think they'd learn, but no... They must really want to see America soundly beaten.

Several SI leftwingers openly admitted they wanted America to lose the war with Iraq. Off the top of my head, one was redfish who voiced that opinion when the war was imminent.

Michael Moore, beloved by leftwingers, compared the "insurgents" in Iraq, who are murdering school teachers and day-laborers, with the American Minutemen and vowed they would win.

Voicing these opinions doesn't make these folks any less popular on the left.

" When we leave Iraq, it will be a victory for the real America, just as leaving Vietnam was." No one thinks Vietnam was a victory for America. Just ask any leftwinger on SI. They'll tell you hell yeah America lost that war and by God they're delighted about it.
