Why all the agitation? If you do the math, Tony essentially faces life in prison. Heck, the federal charges alone for the fake ID are 20 years ( see: usdoj.gov ).

All appeals are based on points of law, not on the retrying of evidence. So your assumption that Tony is hoping to influence the judge by retrying his case is ridiculous. He simply wants people who knew him to hear his side of the story. Why? Because he figures if he's going down, he's going down on his terms. Is that such a hard concept to grasp?

The last time I visited Phoenix, it was still part of the U.S., so "fleeing" there would not have accomplished anything. Tony lived in San Diego. The last I checked a map, San Diego bordered Tijuana, Mexico. The last time I was in San Diego, I was able to cross over the border without the need to pass through customs or even show my ID. But, of course, the great thing about conspiracy theories is that anything is "possible" once you add in and connect enough dots. So if that's your intention, I won't stand in your way.
