I don't understand how an experienced umpire can ring the player out with his fist and then allow the batter to run.

He first signaled strike.
Then ringed him out with the fist.

I did not believe it.

Then as soon as they allowed him to remain on base I knew it was going to be the game winning run.

It just works that way...

Sosscia was remarkably calm in the post-game interview.
I figured we would have really let the ump have it.

The umps owe them a call.
