Re AMD vs Intel:

Meathead, what always crosses my mind if Dell uses AMD cpu's is the paperwork and parts complexity.

Especially for all the (hired) sevice people world wide.
They have enough problems handling all the variety of Intel Dells, with new systems being introduced so often.

Doubling the paperwork often quaduples the work required
to maintain the systems. Doubles the number of parts in the parts kits for service calls.

AMD would need significant advantage in cost and performance over Intel to be of use to Dell, and I believe that Intel is not that far behind the curve and also that if AMD becomes too much of a threat, that Intc can design systems with capabilities equal to whatever AMD can produce-if pressured to do so.
