Actually, the vehement atheists are just as deranged as the absolutists on the other side. There's no way to know that there is no deity. No way at all. The most you can reasonably assert is that it's very unlikely.

Either evolutionary theory will answer the questions and solve the issues raised, or it won't.

It already has. If Karen Hughes in the course of her official duties addresses the question of the bird flu bug morphing into something that is transmittable from human to human, she accepts evolution. Duh. Those 53% claim that all the critters on earth are as God made them in the beginning. Wonder how many of them will suffer the flu. If this flu weren't so dangerous, I'd probably enjoy a bit of schadenfreude over that.
