Why should a state legislature determine whether a woman has a baby or not? How can a few dudes in capital city have any idea what is best for her or her family?

You could say the same thing about all health and/or right to life laws.

If someone is going to make abortion policy, it seems more appropriate to have elected officials make it than appointed justices, that's my point. Unless you think the constitution guarantees the right to an abortion (seems a stretch, if the constitution guarantees the right to an abortion but not the right to smoke pot, or the right to drive without a seatbelt).

TP, Why should a state legislature determine whether a woman has a baby or not? How can a few dudes in capital city have any idea what is best for her or her family?

Then put it up for a popular vote. My guess is that except for a handful of the "red states," most states would vote to keep abortion legal.
