Both Ending - and Leading - diagonals are impulses, but ED's are 3-3-3-3-3, and LD's are 5-3-5-3-5. And, of course, ED's occur as 5th waves or C's - while LD's are 1sts or A's.

LD's are rather uncommon, but Ive seen a few - including, I (still) think, the decline this last August. Just reviewed again the 120 min SPX - I think it "qualifies".

Lots of things which are supposed to be rare like expanding flats aren't. The LD is on p40 of my "10th edition, 2005"). "It has recently come to light, blah blah". There wasn't much added after 1982 from what I can tell.
